Course overview

Much of the design we see today is influenced from the past. In this course, we’ll explore the history of not only interiors, but also architecture, furniture, glass, fashion, and jewelry, with Côme Remy, expert and former Christie’s Decorative Arts Director.

  • Survey the great interior designs of the 20th century, such as Art Nouveau, Art Deco, the Modernist movement, and Scandinavian style up to the contemporary era
  • Discover key figures, such as Antoni Gaudi, Mies van der Rohe, Ettore Sottsass or Philippe Starck
  • Outcome: Develop the ability to recognize the main design schools within their overall stylistic contexts

  • No previous interior design experience needed.

Was inspired by the knowledge and the passion of Come Remy. We covered so much but felt as though I have just had a sneak peak into it is wonderful work. I can't wait to learn more.

Come's approach of showing photographs and discussing every detail truly trained our visual sense, and this I think is the most important skill a school can instill in designers. The knowledge and experience from our teachers is a rarity. He took us on a vertical journey to France and Europe through the ages. I strongly recommend this course, simply to appreciate beauty around us.
