SYLLABUS
The Professional Diploma is structured around 2 certificates : The Certificate in Interior Design Level I (Residential) and the Certificate in Interior Design Level II (Commercial).
The Certificate in Interior Design Level I will focus on residential interiors while the Certificate in Interior Design Level II will cover the retail, hospitality, food and beverage and office design sectors. As part of the Certificate Level II, students are required to complete a one-month internship at a professional practice in order to qualify for the Professional Diploma. The internship will be provided by the school should the student obtain the sufficient marks.
Both certificates are structured around 5 real-life design projects (2 residential, 3 commercial). These projects will form a comprehensive design portfolio that will demonstrate the professional competency of the graduate.
Students have at least 20-25 formal teaching hours a week and will be kept focused the rest of the time with an exciting program of seminars, webinars, visits to studios, building sites, galleries and museums.
The teaching by tutors and visiting professionals is intensive and supportive, and includes a high proportion of face-to-face sessions. This progressive approach enables tutors to monitor students’ progress regularly and to deliver effective and constant feedback that is vital to ensuring successful learning outcomes.
The Professional Diploma will teach all stages of Interior Design from design concept through project implementation:
Design Process
Students will learn how to take a client brief, write a design analysis and elaborate creative concepts.
Interior Architecture
This module focuses on the understanding of space planning, building construction, systems and services such as lighting, heating, air-conditioning, and building regulations .
Graphic Representation
The student will learn design computer drawings (2D and 3D), as well as hand drawing techniques (sketching and perspective drawings)
Interior Decoration
This module focuses on materials, their use, their technical performances and their environmental impact in both the residential and commercial sector .
Stylistic Studies
The student will explore the main stylistic movements from the 18th to the 21st century.
Business practice
The student will learn about budgeting, fee structures, contracts, specifications and schedules. They will also become very familiar with industry standards and regulations.
