Lighting Design

"It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."

Course Overview

Light is one of the most important elements of interior design. It can set a mood, provide atmosphere, even change the perceived size of a space. Knowing how to design with it is one of the most useful and important assets to an interior designer, or anyone looking to redecorate their home.

In this course, we’ll explore the basic principles of lighting design and experience first-hand how lighting professionals achieve different effects in our in-house Zumtobel lighting studio.

What you’ll learn:

  • Understand the basic principles of lighting design and get an overview of lamps: their fittings, color temperature, rendition, and regulations
  • Learn where to source light fixtures and how to tell apart the different light sources, from incandescent to fluorescent, halogen, and LED
  • Tools for designing the best possible lighting scheme through an understanding of light interaction, types of lighting, and an application of artificial lighting
